I keep enough for a fresh fish fry. Unfortunately, they haven’t been jumping in the boat lately. The fishing has been great…the catching notsomuch 😉

When I was 15 my mom would drop me and my friends off at the reservoir for a day of fishing and swimming. We would bring a frying pan and cook what we caught for lunch. The lake was filled with trophy size blue gills and after we caught our fill and then some we’d go swimming. All of this was against the law-fishing, fire for cooking and swimming. Thinking back it was strange that my mom drove and allowed us to fish the reservoir. The reservoir manager would see us but pretend that he didn’t. Youth had its advantages. Years later I took my young son fishing there. A new warden drove by saw us but kept going. Later that day we saw him at the local store and he asked if that was us fishing earlier today. I nodded and asked him why he didn’t say anything. “I saw a father and son fishing and I wasn’t going to be the guy to ruin their time together “
I thanked him and we went home. That was 40 years ago. Maybe I’ll go by and see if those bluegills still recognize me and try my luck again at not getting arrested.
