I finally retired and my wife agreed I can now buy a good used Boston Whaler 13 or 15 ft. Please, if anyone knows of one for sale, preferably within a couple of hundred miles of Chicago, let me know. I've waited a long time for this and am so looking forward to it. Thanks for any suggestions.

Here is one located in Grand Haven MI...probably not too far from your area. Found it on Craig's List while looking in "Northern Michigan" zone. There were a few others, so it might be worth hopping on your computer and looking in some regions up along the Western MI shoreline...perhaps even the SE Michigan area like greater Detroit.

Good luck!

I think they were asking for 16 grand. I know these tend to hold their value...so I am unsure if that is a good value or not for a used boat of that vintage. Also looks like others are posting some leads...

wow...just checked out the leads from shutupandfish...that last one looks like diamond in the rough! I think I'd check that one out ASAP!

Bob O: Well, if you can resist the urge to plunge, wait until the first frost, or beginning of winter, then the price will be more negotiable. I understand if you cannot wait, want to get on the water while there is a little summer left, but if price flexiblity is number one, wait! These that are available now may be gone, but there will be others. Just Sayin...RJS

Boats and motorhomes should be bought in the dead of winter as folks that really needed them but now can use the money for perhaps their new snowmobile.

Great suggestion, Robert, and I totally agree. I’d love to have the boat “yesterday” but it’s beginning to look like I’ll need to wait for the guy who “needs” a bigger boat! I plan on fishing it in L. Michigan, small lakes and down to Florida’s panhandle Gulf coast. I appreciate your comments.

Hey, Bob, a Carolina Skip is a close second to what you are looking for. Good luck. Everything is all messed up right now due to the Covid. I've been looking for a 15-20 hp electric start Any Brand for six months. There is just nothing but junk here in Texas. And people who have anything wants new plus prices. And I'm told that new ones are 28 weeks out, pay in advance with no promise on delivery date.

I have a few Homelite Fisher Pierce Bearcat 55HP. They were only available on Boston Whalers. They were ahead of their time getting rare but there is some still running twins or just one. They are a 4 Cycle 4 Cylinder that was a Crosley Car Engine setup and modified for Outboard. Very efficient engines for generators and other commercial and Military Applications. Bearcat55hp You can read up on the history. The owner of BW bought out Homelite to be the exclusive retailer.

I remember Boston Whalers and they are pretty much impossible to destroy. I think I would want a larger hull if it is my retirement and probably last boat. I watched a consumer advocate run over a Boston Whaler with a Caterpiller and the hull did not break. It does NOT change the fact that if waves get bigger the boat does not grow.

Good Luck and be safe. I hope your dreams all come true.
