Whats the difference between saltwater fishing and fishing in small ponds? Is there a difference at all when it comes to technique and bait used?

Ive only fished in a small pond and only caught one fish so far, im thinking of fishing on a jetty soon. Any advice?

Stay on the jetty and be careful. Jetties are great places to fish but get Very slippery, and dangerous !

Yes. Wear corners on your feet so you don't get hurt out there.

Watch out for tsunamis and great white sharks.

Make sure to rinse your rod, reels, and tackle ASAP after fishing saltwater. It's very corrosive. (using fresh water)
Probably want to use a bit of a leader too. Can get lots of snags on rocks on the jetties.

As long as your into taking good care of your gear, the biggest difference is between a small fighter like a bluegill and a hundred pound + fish that can stripe your line off your reel or eat you. Or both.

The difference between a VW bug and a Formula 1.
Do some research. Study up. Go to your local tackle store, Bass Pro Shops/Cabelas, etc. Ask around, work, friends, church, etc.
Good luck.
