I hope I attached the download correctly. A blue marlin 1135 lbs. Won a Maryland tournament. Obviously big $$$ tournament with big entry fee and big boats. The marlin was worth over $1.1 million. Beautiful fish, on my bucket list, will never happen.

Those are rich man tournaments and always some ringer fishermen. I could never afford the entrance fee.

Going to have to take your word on it Yankee. The download wants me to open in a account that i don't have. Thanks for the thought, but way out of my league.

Plum, Google blue marlin tournament. Way out of everyone's league except ultra rich. Probably $100,000 entry fee, $20,000 dockage, $20,000 fuel...
I used to fish shark tournaments on a friend's boat. We fished out of Montauk, NY back in the 80's and 90's.
It wasn't cheap, lot of big boats, but not big $$, like that.

A tournament in Ocean City started $1,250 entry fee before June, afterwards $ 1,450. That is a lot of fish sticks.

Yankeeblue, if you want to catch a marlin (seriously) look into a trip to Cabo San Lucas at the southern tip of Baja California, Mexico. The flight there would probably be the most expensive part of the trip. Very reasonable to stay there, and you can hire a good boat to take you out without spending a ton of money. I haven't been down there in years and years and I'm sure it has all changed (what hasn't?) but I would sure look into it. There is also plenty of mahi mahi, wahoo, and - rooster fish! Could be the trip of a lifetime.

Thanks Spirit. I have heard that Cabo is great for billfish. Not realistic for me now, probably never. Health issues have made that kind of fishing memories for me. I had my time catching tuna, shark, white marlin, king mackerel, bonefish, redfish, and many types of bottomfish. I am blessed and very thankful for those opportunities.

That particular recent tournament had a surprising "twist" to it that folks might find interesting....

The winning fish, as mentioned coming in at the 1135 lb mark, was caught on the last day and broke a tournament record that had been set just the day before with a 950 pounder by a different fisherman.

I am definitely "not" in that financial circle, and I don't rub elbows with that caliber of people, but I happen to know the guy that caught the 950 pound blue marlin. He is very "down to earth", and like many affluent people, played his cards right at various times in his career by being in the right place at the right time. I saw some awesome abbreviated video footage of him reeling his 950 pound fish in, from his own boat, which took over 4 hours! He was very excited, and pretty much thought he had the tournament cinched...only to be eclipsed on the next day. Who could imagine!

Entry fee was $25,000...which is a huge chunk of change!

I read about that 950 pounder, Yager. I guessed about entry fee based on prize money, I was too high. But it is still big $ and you still have the Calcutta, fuel, lots of expenses. Cool that you know the guy.

I hear you blue. I can't imagine myself ever getting down there again either. Not sure I could handle a marlin.
