I'm headed to the UP and am going to Chicogan Lake near Crystal Falls. Anyone familiar with the lake for some advice or other lake in the area.

Supposed to be a great walleye lake, but fish deep with crawler harnesses and Lindy rigs with large minnows or shiners. Take your clubs and play the George Young course on the West side, too.
Thanks, my parents had a farm in that area for 45 years and I never had time to do any fishing.

Understood, good luck! I was in the area last week and fishing was tough, but was told the walleyes were turning on just before dark. I marked a lot of fish during the day in the bottom third of the water column (as usual). First light and last light are still the best times to fish shallow.
If time permits, I would highly recommend acquiring a spiral bound copy of a booklet published by "sportsmansconnection.com". Chicagon Lake sounds pretty exciting, and I think that you might be in for a very good time on that water! Perch, walleye and SM bass are highly touted, as well as pike and muskie. They even say that there are good populations of whitefish, and some lake trout in there.
It looks like there are at least 9 other quality lakes surrounding your focal point...all of which are much smaller...which could come in handy of things get windy.
They are based in WI, but publish excellent guide books for several Midwestern States that contain lake maps with contours and a "write up" about numerous lakes that will give you an idea of what to expect in the lake. Sometimes they even provide stocking data and dates of when it was done. Public access is also noted.
The State of MI is covered in 7 separate booklets, but for the area you intend to fish it is covered in a single book named Western Upper Peninsula. I have used these for many years, and find them very helpful when fishing a new lake, or even working routinely on one for several visits.
Their website will allow you to purchase single lakes ASAP for $2.00 per lake, and the whole book is about $24.00 or so depending on current sales that they run. You might find these available over the counter at tackle stores in your region too! To snag a single lake go to their web site and click on the "downloads" header, then search down the list for your specific lake name. Chicagon Lake is a 3 page item and would cost $1.99 to get in hand immediately but then you need to print out your own hardcopy.
Good luck when you go, and we'd all love to hear back on how your trip went! I just spent a week and a half working waters along the Lake Superior shoreline between Munising, Grand Marais and Paradise and had a blast!
Thanks for the info. I will look for those maps now. I know the area near Munising but never fished it or Lake Superior
