Got spooled! For the 1st time ever….from the surf no less.

Something big hit my bait and ran and my reel just screamed as my line came off….no cranking of the handle was stopping this thing…

Before i could think about getting to my knife and cutting the line….the spool was empty…

He ran straight down the shoreline…and broke the surface a couple times….i couldn’t see it but other guys on the beach said it was the biggest Skate they ever saw…4 feet across
Somewhere in the Delaware Bay is a giant Skate with 200 yards of braid hanging from its mouth….hahaha

Wow! Would’ve made a great video. Where were you? Near the Atlantis or elsewhere on Sunset Beach? I would’ve laughed after the experience. Thanks for sharing your experience.

I was by the Atlantis yes….i did laugh after…i never expected to get spooled from a beach where I normally catch fish that weigh 2 lbs !…lol

That size Skate is usually out deep….my 17lbs of drag didn’t make him flinch….hahahaha.

Same thing happened to me last week danger in ocean city. Except I was able to land it. Turned out to be a cownose stingray.

Was able to get this guy onto the beach a couple weeks ago…..he was about 2 1/2 feet across….but my 20 lb test line was at its limit…

They do put up a good fight….when they’re not laughing at my lightweight gear and heading out deep with all my line flowing behind them….

Danger have you considered getting a kayak? That monster would have brought you to Maryland before tiring out.

I know you are waiting for prices to come down, but a yak is a great substitute till you get what you are after.

You could flip the back reel switch and use the handle for a fan during these hot days!

Wow...now that would be a terrific thrill...even though the outcome was being spooled! Your never gonna forget that experience...and in some ways it just might end up being a better memory than having caught that rascal! Thanks for sharing!
