I finally got my Hobie Revolution all salty this past weekend! I have been fishing fresh water lakes and rivers for the past 15 years. The group I went with (Fresh N Salty) had a little event going on for biggest Ling Cod. The prize was fishing gear and custom lures. We were at Albion River Cove Campground which is a great place to camp and fish. There are lots of crab in their too, depending on the season.
It must have been "Beginner's Luck" because I won with the biggest Ling Cod for the day!!! It measured 33.5" long. I also caught one of the biggest Vermillion (rock fish) of the trip at 22.5" long :-) I had another fish on my line that felt heavier/bigger than the one that one it for me. It was pulling line out quick, so I tightened the drag and started hauling it up! I had a line counter reel, so I saw that it was about 20' to the surface, after hooking up with it at around 100'. At around 10' more to go, the line went slack!!! I was like NOOOOOOO!
It had come off, but my lure was still on the end of my line.
Anyways, a great fish story I will never forget.
Great food, friends and stories had by all for the weekend. It was fun going up and down on those 9 foot swells :-) I was nervous at first, but when my mind settled down and I concentrated on fishing, it was a blast!!! The bait I used was my Dad's favorite. It work out for me that weekend. Tons of fish caught and so many various ways to cook them was shared by all! Ceviche, fried, baked, steamed and so on!!!

Hey Ed, nice pics and a great time had. Congrats on the big fish of the day.
Now that you have fished the ocean, let me know if you want to try to go out someday and see if we can catch some out there somewhere. Doesn't have to be all the way up there. Lots of places closer. I'd be up for tryin it anyway.

Sounds good, Steve! Are we talking, from your boat or from my kayaks? Either or works for me :-)

I was thinkin from your yaks. Just off the beach or wherever.
Salt Point is a lot closer than Albion.

Is there a place to park and launch at Salt Point? Not too familiar with that area.

Yeah, there's a parkin lot and then you walk across a beach to the waters edge. Google it. It's nice.

Last time someone told me that, I left early in the AM and got to the location, took my kayak out, but the tide was out and it was at least a 1/2 mile walk, in the sand, to the water. I was too dang tired to fish when I got there.🀣

Great. Let me know what you think. Also places up from Bodega Bay. Not as easy as Salt Point though.

Have you ever fished that area? Are there good rocky bottom for rock fish to hang out?

Yep. It's a cove and there are rocks ALL up and down from there. That's bout the only sandy beach available.
If you Google it , it shows you pretty good what it looks like.
