I'm sure this might be controversial, but I've read some articles about surf casting for sharks, and the thought intrigues me. Does anyone here have any experience with this? Any advice about rod and reel?

I’ve fished in the Surf for years I use a 12 foot spinning rod and a decent size penn spinning reel with 50lb braid I’m able to make long casts with this set up I’ve actually landed some good size stingrays and sharks 🦈 if this sounds like it could work for you good luck 🍀

depending on the species, bonnet head, nurse not really a problem. the rest.......cut the line and lose the gear.

The longer the rod the greater the advantage for the shark.

Join Land Based Shark Fishing on Face Book. They will provide great information. I notice that they mostly work in teams of 2 or 3. I watched some guys setup just before dusk on a short pier on the inter coastal near my home. They kayaked out about a 25 pound chunk of what I assumed was black drum for bait. Crazy heavy gear.
Check local regulations. Some areas don't allow land based shark fishing. Florida requires that you pass free class about shore based shark fishing before doing it.

I used to do it for a lot of years . Mostly in Jupiter Florida! We used 12/0 to 16/0 Penn reels 100-200 lb test line . Took the baits out in a small boat 500-700 yards weighted with a concrete block tied on with Mono so when the Shark hit it cut off the block ! Caught lots of Bull Sharks and Hammerheads up to 11’ long ! With an occasional Lemon -Tiger- Nurse shark. Lots of smaller Black Tips (4-6’) in the winter

some twisted one here said he's had success fishing from shore for sharks with this tactic that hasnt failed him yet. He ties his line and hooks to some skinny young kid and have them swim out thirty yards with the tide...them gives them slack line as they drift along shore. When the kid stops screaming, he tightens the drag then sets the hook!

We used to fish shark tournaments out of Montauk NY. A couple times we had caught 50+ blue sharks and were running out of hooks. Morale of the story, 1 held the mouth open, the other took the hook out. These were mostly 100-150 lb. blue sharks. You do what it takes! True story, no BS.
