Caught about 15 yesterday while fluke fishing. I kept the three largest and made breaded “robin fingers”. For those that think they are junk fish, you should try them. As tasty as fluke, after all, they eat the same things. Cleaning them is not that hard once you get the hang of it.
Try it, you’ll like it. 😁

They do not get big enough to eat around here, 6 to 8 inches and all head

You are correct great to eat if you can find them large enough I always keep large ones and all puffer fish.

I never used to but tried them, I agree. They’re quite good eating. Everyone calls them “trash fish” but boy, do I like that trash. Pretty much the same as skates.

I tried them a couple of years ago. Caught them out by Moriches Inlet. The meat was gray before cooking and didn’t taste good to me.

I bled them right away and kept them on ice. They were as tasty as fluke.

I'll have to give them a try so bleeding them like Bluefish is the key to good tasting

Bleed and ice as quickly as possible. I do that with all fish I keep.

Saltwater. Yes I fillet them once I’m home.
I rarely fish fresh water and don’t keep my catch.
