Hello everyone. My name is David, from the piedmont area of NC. I've loved to fish all my life (54 yrs), but have been out of the loop for QUITE A FEW years. I'm just now getting back into it with some friends.
So I wanted to introduce myself, & let everyone know that I'm interested in any tips, tricks, strategies, etc. that anyone cares to offer.

Welcome to the Forum, David. We seem to have a lot of members on the Forum that reside in the East Coast of the US or the East Coast members do a lot of posting. A lot of members are in the same boat as you, so, you should find some answers to a few of your questions. Use the search button on the top of the main page to find the subject matter that you have a question about. It's not an easy Forum to use but you should be able to figure it out with a little practice. I have been a member from almost the beginning of the Forum and I still have problems with it but that's me. One thing that I figured out yesterday is that you can go to the next page if you want to see more on the subject matter. (dah!) Has anyone figured out a spell check on it yet?

Probably the best advice for someone getting back into fishing is to watch, ask, use and do what the locals do. They will be more than willing to help a beginner out.

Tight Lines!

I fished a lot below the dam in North Wilksboro, NC. Caught some bass when bass fishing but had a real blast catching carp in the swift water below the dam. Used store bought carp bait and added a little vanila to it and kneaded it into the bait. Most carp were in the 6 pound range...I fished every day during my lunch time at Ithica Industries clothing factory....even when it was snowing. Not a day went by when I didn't catch a fish. Seriously...what a place to fish. Nobody fishes for carp but they are nuts for not doing it...I released all that I caught. Now I'm in Florida. No carp here.

People should check out how they cook and eat carp in Minnesota. I thought they were trash fish but apparently if done right they are really good eating. Check out this on food channel. Mike

Many fish are good eating but have bad reputations..........I remember hearing that you put the carp on a board and lean it facing towards the fire. When you think it is done, throw the carp away and eat the board...an old fishing joke.

Hello David and welcome back to the world of fishing. I also live in the Piedmont area and can help you when you need it. Most of the lakes here are man made so they have to be fished differently. I learned that the hard way but once learned the fishing is great. I studied these lakes and have written several books about how to fish them. If you go to my book site www.booksbyjake.com and you might find my phone number or e mail and we can talk if you wish.

I like smoked carp and they are fun to catch on a fly rod, but that is about it.
