My grandad told me that when he was young he used to fish in water wearing a mask and using a weight attached to his fishing line. When he saw the fish biting the hook he would quickly pull the fishing line and get it out of the water. I am not an expert and he didn't explain perfectly how he did it (he's kinda old) so i though i could ask you guys. What do i need to do this? Do you know how this type of fishing is called?

I used to wrap a few feet of line around my hand with a split shot and baited hook. I would swim over a rocky reef with a mask, snorkel, and fins. When I saw fish below me I would lower the hook and watch the fish catch themselves. Have fun. Wear a life jacket. Watch out for boats. 🎣

Anyone trying this: wear a glove on your catching hand. If a big fish darts out and grabs your bait you can get a nasty cut on your hand otherwise. How do I know this ?
