Crabbing with a snare.
This is the first time I tried crabbing with a snare. Are there any chips I can get from anyone out there. Especially what kind of habitat would I be looking for.
Are you talking about the type of snare that you use from a fishing pole π£ if so we fish like you would for fish place squid π¦ in the basket and if you are fishing ocean cast out as far as you can wait about 15 to 30 minutes and set it like you would when getting a fish bite because if you donβt set it and you just reel it in the hoops will slide off the crabs π¦ legs by setting it you will tighten up the hoops around the legs and reel in the catch good luck π
That's cool Orlando. Didn't know there was such a way. Something new learned today.
The crab snares with loops (of what appears to be weed-eater line) are pretty worthless, imo. My buddy had one and I have a spring-loaded folding one I got from BiMart for slightly more $$ (his...~$10, mine, like $15). On mine, the two pieces fold around the crabs and bait clip, rather than counting on the crab having a leg inside of the loop, when retrieved.... much more efficient. Rigged up a stiff rod spinning combo with 80lb Dacron, chicken leg or thigh on the clip, cast off the jetty, soak for a while, retrieve, cull the babies and females, repeat until you get dinner with the "legals". Dungeness are so tasty and you never know who you might meet and converse with, while you nurse a "cold one" and chat.
In Brookings, Or. it might be a native, a transplant or a tourist, much to learn from all.....and not all are us "old farts", passing the time in a fine setting, met a couple of nice gals, last time I was over there.
I would plan on a bunch of not-so- nice words to emerge from your mind, if not your lips, if using the "snare type"...... Jerry had quite a few to utter, when he would start to reel in (rapidly and with steady pressure... the proper procedure) when he "felt the weight of a couple or three"... rarely pulled in more than one, and they were mostly under-sized, at that.
Just my 2Β’ worth on "snares" vs. "clam-shell" types. Good luck !
