Here is the Hook: Baitcaster or Spinning gear. Am I doing it all wrong

If you opened this thread to see what else I had to say about the age old BC vs. Spinning gear question, Gotcha.

Apparently Bow Hunting in the ticket. I used to have property on this lake. Became overdeveloped. What I call a concrete bathtub. Shoreline is all manicured with seawalls. But while I was there more than once something I never saw would tear me and my equipment up. Started to bait up a 100lb test, old Penn reel and rod that could handle both. Bait was a bluegill and treble hook some of you would call an anchor. Visitors thought I was a character from Mobey Dick or out of the movie Jaws. I knew there were big fish in that lake. Never caught anything bigger than a 15 pound catfish on that rig. Happy to catch them but on that setup it was like catching a minnow. I did have a fish run into the anchor line once that shook the boat. Looked down and saw a flathead catfish with a head about a foot wide. Most people would doubt that story, but now I have evidence that my whale rig was not overkill.

Couldn’t help but share. Bighead Carp are an invasive species. MDC thinks this fish is ten years old. That’s averaging 12 pounds of growth per year. Supposed to be vegetarian, but with a mouth able to swallow a five gallon pail, can’t guess what else they swallow by accident or out of convenience.

Captain Ahab.. .out.

I've never heard of that species of Carp Jwid, I mean Ahab. That would have been a helluva fight, even on the Penn and the boatrod. Thanks for sharing.

Never saw one before, sucker looks like a catfish. Did 3 arrows dispatch him or did he need a few whacks on the head after you winched him in?

One arrow came out. Two to pull the carp in. I agree. If I was asked what it was I wouldn’t get it right.
