Went out yesterday and finally caught a keeper fluke over 19” in Jones Beach inlet. Thats only the second keeper this season, after catching tons of shorts. Tossed back two 18” fish and a bunch of others including a few small black sea bass. I also kept a big sea robin.

Very nice! Your persistence paid off. Hopefully with so many "shorts" this season...that will mean that next year almost everything will be a keeper as they have grown up!

Nice fluke John. Congrats on finally getting one. You should have kept the 18" ones, said you cast into CT waters where 18" is legal. LOL

Nice catch John. What does the sea robin taste like. Caught a few small one but never cooked one up.

I fish next to these guys and they keep everything. Usually with 3-4 people fishing. It’s frustrating.

Sea Robin is a mild fish, much like fluke. They feed off the same stuff. I’ve had it twice now and I’m starting to keep the big ones. This one was a full meal.

They are actually considered a game fish around here nowadays. The Fisherman magazine has them listed on their annual tournament and there are many YouTube videos on how to clean and cook.

Well good! i do not look down on any creature. there is a purpose for all of them. That said, some do try our ability to make room for them.

I saute sea robins the same fashion as fluke. Lot of firm white flesh at the tail end. Skin can be used in lieu of fluke belly and the rest can go into Maryland style crab trap or into your killie car.
