Actually, I believe Spirit was up there awhile back. Might PM him and see.
OK, I just checked and it was stephbess that posted about Martis. Spirit just responded that he had never fished it before.
So PM stephbess. I think she's fished it. I believe she might be from the Reno area.

I was up there a few weeks ago. There are no motors allowed, not even electric, so if you've got a tube or a pontoon you can get on the water with either of those. I saw several the day I was up there. There are lahontan cutthroats in there, a very healthy population from what I understand. It is strictly artificials and barbless hooks only. Also c&r only, I'm pretty sure. I do that most of the time anyway. I fished for a couple of hours or so - from the bank. I was throwing a 1/4 oz (I'm pretty sure) Berkley/Johnson Silver Minnow that I had filed the barb off of and I was trailing a 2 inch root beer colored grub. I got one massive hit and had a good fight going on, then my 2lb test fluoro gave way. Haven't been back, but I will be going once this heat goes away for a bit. The access to the lake is really good - you can park almost lakeside on the bank. There's no launch ramp, but a tube or a kayak or pontoon would be really simple to launch. Anything else you want to know, give me a holler. Gonna up the fluoro to 6 or 8.
It's coming back now - I saw one rise out toward the middle that had to be at least 2 feet. Very impressive. I was thinking float tube and fly rod. That will be going with me also. I don't think there's a lot of pressure on the fish, probably because of the restrictions. Good luck!
Where I was fishing. Right by the parking area.

Is wading allowed (without
a tube) ? Nice that it gets little pressure - makes for a quiet,
peaceful day on the water, and
the fish aren't stressed from
excessive fishing pressure !
Yes, you can wade it. I suppose you can swim in it if you are so inclined. It's very weedy. When I go back I'm gonna tube it.
Most of the lakes up there can get very windy, especially in the afternoon. I's talking to a guy up there, and he told me Martis doesn't get a lot of wind because of the way it's situated in the mountains. Protected somehow I guess. That's very nice because you can get blown right off a lot of those lakes. Last time I was trying to fish Boca I was fighting a gale and I just gave up. I can't fish like that.

I know what you mean ! Last
summer when I went fishing with Wulffy up in Colorado, we tried to
fish at Miramonte Reservoir (elev. 7,700 ft.) and we were getting gusts
over 20 mph; we headed back and tried Groundhog Lake, but we still couldn't cast because of the wind !
Took a rest for the afternoon, then went out for Mexican food and a couple of beers !
Got back up to Groundhog early
the next morning, rented a boat
and trolled the lake for four hours -
the wind had died down
considerably so we managed to
catch a couple of nice rainbows in
the 12" to 14" range, which I left for him ! We had an eagle fly over us at about 50 ft.- she may have been waiting for us to catch another one
so she could steal it !
