When fishing in strange waters I normally troll a live bait on a Carolina rig. Remember that 90% 0f the fish are in 10% of the water, first you need to find that 10%. Live bait will normally get you action action. If you have a sonar you need to watch the depth of the fish and adjust the depth of your bait to be just above the fish. Once you locate the fish then you can use the lures and abandon the troll and the live bait.

I've been to many different spots in my local area but I always leave empty handed. I'm trying to catch bass (or anything that will bite) and it seems no matter what lures I use I just can't get a bite. I've seen from other posts and YouTube videos that the go-to technique for bass is a Texas rigged finesse worm or senko. I've tried that as well....cast it around cover/structure, slow drag along the bottom every 5-6 seconds with some hopping action sprinkled in there. No bites....at all. I've tried spinners, cranks, and buzzbaits as well....same results. Obviously I'm doing something wrong and I'm hoping that someone who's more experienced can point it out. I'm VERY new to fishing and typically fish from my kayak.

EDIT: I live in Tennessee, usually go around 7-8am when the temp is around 70°-75°. The water here is fairly dirty, about a foot or two of visibility when my bait is in the water. I use dark colors for my baits (black and blue or black and red).

Looks like the body of water your fishing in doesn't have any fish in it try a bobber and a live minnow or worm and see if they'll bite

In your case I would move around a lot and use a Ned rig (green pumpkin) with a shroom jighead in structure areas. Instead of fishing it slow, keep it moving with an occasional pause since you have poor visibility in the water. Fishing this method may get you more bites. Also instead of fishing mornings try fishing right before dark. That is when the big girl bass move to shallow water. You have to find where the bass are located in summer so fish those high probability areas. To catch a fish you have to think like a fish so look for shady areas. Hope this helps you from getting skunked.

That's a very nice bass you got there, thanks for sharing that photo. But what are you all pissed off over? You do not look like you're having a bit of fun. Your wife just run off with your truck?

Try an 1/8 ounce jig head with a small chartreuse grub and swim it medium. Also let it sink then jig it up and down stop for 2 then repeat. A go to for me is a small to medium suspending jerk bait if all else fails.

just relax and enjoy being out. Some times it just doesn't make since why one doesn't catch any thing. I just took my wife out fishing in the sound. I choose and put the gear on her pole, set up the down rigger and set it to the depth it needed to be all on one side of the boat on the other side of the boat I set up my gear identical in every way, same pole, reel, line, same flasher and ace fly in color and size leader length , set the downrigger to the identical depth we were on the same boat going the same speed in the same location. You guessed it she caught 4 salmon (how be it all to small to keep) I caught none. Why???? Who knows that is why it is called fishing not catching and if you are doing it just to catch fish you might as well hang it all up before spending lots of more money on every type of gear you will end up buying. But if you enjoy being out on the water and enjoy the challenge of trying to find and out smart some fish then just hang in there and enjoy your time out even if you don't catch a thing

Feeling your pain lol. I'm used to trolling or bobber fishing and being only somewhat successful enough to eat fish now and then. My bride and I joined a little local bass league on Tuesday night to haven't caught a legal bass yet lol

I'm sure you have tried any type of craw. Texas rigging with say a 4 ot wide gap hook and bullet weight does work well. You can also try it weightless and let it slowly sink to the bottom...be patient. Some of your best hits will be in the waiting just a few more seconds. Summer can be a good time to fish but also tricky. You have your shad that are in the shallows and the bluegill feed on the shad so they hang out where the shad are. Consequently the bass will hide in shady tree lined parts of the bank to ambush the bluegill. Then you have your bass that travel to the deeper colder parts of the lake, dam or whatever to feed there. Get to your spot at 6am or if you can take the yak out around 7at night and fish till it starts to get dark you might get some bites then. Between trying to gain more experience bass fishing fish for bluegill. There fun to catch and the rig is simple. Don't give up. I got skunked the first 3 months trying to learn how to fish for bass.

My feelings exactly. Nature is the best therapy and while your out there enjoying nature become a student of bass behavior. You will catch bass and you will gain confidence!

Here is my advise. Go old school, Get yourself some hooks size 6,8, and or 10, some drop shot pencil weights, and some Flourocarbon leader. Make yourself some crawler harnesses, using the drop shot technique. Bait that harnesses with a huge ass night crawler, smoke one if you have it, or have a beer, you will definately catch whatever is in that body of water.

I make a point of laughing at the pros and the like, when I am on the lake and they have all their equipment and not catching aything. I just sit there and bring in these huge fish right in front of them, while they are getting nothing.

My advise save your money and go old school, worms.

Liked your post there Lindy B.
I’m no help here for bass and for that matter any freshwater fish. I have only caught one bass and it wasn’t much bigger than the lure.
