Just to be sure , i googled it…and not sure if its same fish as foodfisher mentioned…Spot croaker habitat is from Massachusetts to Texas….of course this could be a different kind for all i know….

We have something close. Spotfin croaker. Similar spot at the base of pectoral fin. Broader shoulders though.
I just read an article in Wikipedia and it said they once (50's) were plentiful in Mission Bay and Imperial Beach. I surf fished Imperial Beach back in the 90's and I never caught one or even heard of em. I think San Diego is about the northern extent of their range, and that's pushing it.

Are those drum? We don't have those here.
If they were here I would be singing “ I don’t want to work I just want to reel on the DRUM all day”

I was just kidding around Danger, We don't have any salt water in Tennessee either.
I was goofing off too. I’m glad it sounds like boat deal got better. It is always a mystery when getting used boats… cars… any machines

Danger, nice catching. Those spots are exceptional baits for stripers either live lined or chunked
When I go to NC they're a favorite food fish. When I fund them in Jersey, they're a favorite bait for striper. Bait shops that have a big live well will sell at about $3 each. Spot, croacker red and black drum are all cousins. We had a very col winter back a few years, so cold the bay froze. Must have pit a big dent in the population, we haven't seen too many lately. Friend of mine caught a 14 something flounder using a 7 inch live spot for bait.

Was wondering what you meant..then it dawned on me that you and spirit are on the west coast…spot are east coast fish….i think they go as far as texas…
Nice D. When they start hitting it's not stop. One outing at OBX i was on a pier n they came in with the tide. I quit baiting hook as already said they was hitting a bare hook. I kept throwing them in a bucket. Got to hotel did a head count 125. I cleaned them all. Yea i was tired LOL
