First Spanish mackerel of the season. A little early in the season for north nj. Caught on custom epoxy jig , working silver side school for blues when hooked.
Good job Mike nice fish. Thanks for the pic.
We get jack mackerel out here and a lot of people find them very tasty. I do not. I cut them up and use them as catfish bait. Bloody and oily and stays on the hook really well. The catfish like it a lot.

Nice catch Mike, we rarely saw them in LIS.
We used to go to Alantic Beach, NC. Sportsman pier. We'd catch them from the pier throwing Gotcha plugs. Long cast, lean over the pier, point your rod down toward the water and start walking the dog, subsurface. What a great time.
I grew up in morehead city. And fished the iron streamer as a kid. Caught my first and only hammerhead from the pier in a1974z Also liked to fish the surf and rocks out at fort macon
