Bought a used helix 12

Hey guys,

Looking for some advice on a used helix 12 sonar I purchased. Thought I was getting an amazing deal @ 650 for a mint condition unit.

Took it out fishing and the depth bounced back and forth between 6.9 and 1.2 feet of water. Thought maybe the transducer was bad, so I bought a new one online for 300 more dollars. Same issues occurring. I contacted the seller and he told me that he had zero issues with it. Transducer is mounted to the transom of the boat.

Looking for some advice, troubleshooting tips.

Unit is a “helix 12X chirp SI GPS”. I bought the same transducer that came with it. It is an “XHS 9 HDSI 180 T”

I can not guarantee it will help, but set everything to original settings, then run the unit in 10 to 20 feet of water at a slow speed with a hard bottom so it can reprogram itself. First be sure the transducer is plugged all the way in including the twist lock on the plug. Second be sure the ground on the unit is solid and last be sure the power is a full 12 volts at the unit. My problem was that I did not have the plug all the way in as the twist lock pulls it in a bit further. Good luck.

Never buy electronics without an on water demo, and if you can't get one take a hard pass.
