Great video! Once they got past playing with the artificials and started using blue gills it was a blast. And to think I’ve been tossing back all the little gills I’ve been catching. I could catch a gill off the bank and turn around and toss it out on the other side of the boat and catch a lunker. 😀

Now that you know the secret you will be fishing 🎣 all the time. I have used this technique when fishing 🎣 for Northern Pike in Lake Michigan and in Minnesota. I did pick up the “HOOK” that he was using. That hook 🪝 will eliminate all of the gut hooked fish that you will be putting back into the water…

I’ll watch the end again and get the information about the hook. I don’t have a cast net. I can use one rod to catch the gills and a drop shot rod for the bass. 👍 I’m really stoked to go back out and try this.

In the past three years I have caught five bass ranging from four to nine pounds while fishing for blue gill with a fly rod and popping bug. While bass on a bream bug are not uncommon, the five were memorable because they all struck bluegill while I was in the process of landing the (in one case sizeable) brim. I have photos of one of them with the tail of the ‘gill protruding from the bass’s mouth.
I would provide photographs, but I am rural and am assured by the Vice President of the United States that I lack the means and skill to do so.

Check your state regs before doing this. Here in Minnesota for one, it's illegal to use game fish as bait to catch another. Pieces of ok but, not whole fish.
