I'm wanting to buy a Daiwa BG for saltwater fishing but I'm indecisive as to which size. I'd really like a good middle ground size that would serve me well for fishing off a jetty and going offshore, hopefully I'm not asking for too much.

I'm thinking the BG4000 is what I'm looking for? But I'd like other's opinion as I'm sincerely not that experienced. Thanks!

Doug Lemmon Loc: Rochester Mills, PA

The 4000 would serve you well for jetty fishing. Good mid class reel. Just keep in mind offshore of your line capacity .. the 4000 will allow you about 200 of 40# braid. Plenty of line unless your going WAY offshore..lol.. Nice reel IMO.

Dshecht Loc: Long Island, NY

I’d go with the 3000 which I use mostly from shore or piers.

USAF Major Loc: Sea Bright, NJ

4000 is great size for an east coast jetty.
If you are talking 40 pound and above stripers then a 5000 might make life easier for you and the fish.

JackM Loc: North East Florida

The 4000 is a great-sized reel. I have been using one for about 2 years mostly in the surf. Just remember that it is not sealed at all. If it gets dumped you will need to open it and clean the internal parts. I gently rinse mine after each trip and it has held up well.
