Will be fly fishing the White from drift boat below Bull Shoals dam this September.
Anyone have experience on the White. Sections, setup, flies? Fishing in relation to water releases. Any tips to help us get on the fish a little faster.
Thanks

Good mornin', J, welcome to the Forum. Lake Taneycomo is my favorite place to trout fish. Sept. should be a great time of the year. You should be starting to get some Fall color, depending on when in Sept. you will be going. We always went on my wife's B'Day on Oct. 28th. If you fish the tailwaters of the damn, and you can wade fish that area, be very conscious of the when they open the gates. You can fish the tailwaters with 1 or 2 gates open, but it's tough to wade fishing or drift fishing the tailwater with 3 or 4 gates open. The water is very clear and you will need a 6X or 7X tippet. There is a fly shop just up from the hatchery, stop in there and find out what they are hitting on and when. There was a guy on the Forum that was just there about a month ago and night fished that area, I don't know how he did, or what his name was. Good luck!
Thanks for the info. Probably need to monitor the release schedule.

Hey JW, with Bull Shoals Lake being 25 feet up right now they are running a lot of water. It has been 5 to 6 generators around the clock. It will most likely be that way into November with no more rain. I would recommend signing up to the AGFC app and you can get their weekly report on the White below the dam. Cotter boat dock and Sportsman's Resort both give good reports as to lures and flies that are working. Another couple of good resources are Gaston's Resort and the Bull Shoals Lake Boat Dock website. I hope to be at my place just below White Hole Access in September also. Good luck and enjoy the beauty of the area. We love pics of those big trout. Here are some from our last trip in June.
