I travel to Frankfort, MI every year and would like to find more fish on Crystal Lake where I stay. Have found a lot of Rock bass some years

That lake hosts a fantastic fishery...yellow perch, smallies, lake trout to name a few. The South central region of the lake is a wise place to spend time for the warm water species, between Lobb Road and Railroad Point. The lake trout are out in the deep trench that makes up the majority of this lake in the Westerly half. Assuming that you have a boat the access is very easy as long as the wind cooperates. If the waves start capping...head back to safety!

I have 4 suggestions:

1. For a few dollars, purchase a printable copy of the lake from sportsmansconnection.com and study the lake contours as well as historic fish stocking data along with DNR shocking records of actual fish populations.

2. Visit the Backcast Fly shop in Benzonia (located on Easterly side of main road in a strip plaza - Northerly end). They are much more than a fly shop!

3. Visit the Frankfort Tacklebox Sport Shop (located in Frankfort near the marina entrance). Great selection of gear, as well as advice.

4. If you have never done so, treat yourself to a salmon/lake trout charter out in Lake Michigan...out of Frankfort. The salmon are showing up right now and will be there right into the end of September.

Good luck and enjoy your next visit. I get over there at least 2 times a month all year long and the region has a lot to offer...as I'm sure you are aware. Also be sure to visit the Cherry Hut for a meal...or at least a nice fresh baked "warm from the oven" cherry pie!

Hi! My son and I don't have a boat and would love to fish for smaller game fish from a shore or dock or pier. Any idea what public areas we might go to and any recommendations on bait and lures?

I appreciate the tips already and have to check some of these out.

Perch would be amazing but I'm assuming we'd need a boat.

Thanks for any thoughts!
