How long did it take many of you to catch your first fish?

I wanna start by saying that so far, I've had a lot of fun. Learning how to set up my jigs, untangle my line (a lot), cast, being at the lake, etc. Also I've only fished for about 2 days (total maybe 7 hours). There's a good chance I'm not at the right spot or that the weather has really screwed me, Michigan has been getting crazy rain and wind for weeks now.

That being said, when some of you started or any other fellow beginners, how long did it take you to reel in your first one?

Took me a few trips to a local lake to catch a fish, I was told a spot by my friends father and ended catching a pike. Try and talk to other fishermen or at least keep an eye out where guys with lots of gear are fishing.

The first fish can take a while, also don’t forget that people who have many fish under their belt can go out for a day or two (6-8 hours at a time) and not catch anything.

Sometimes it comes down to using the wrong baits for a certain area, or maybe the fish have move from a specific area. When I don’t catch a fish at the local canals I refer to the day as “knot tying and casting practice”.
