Rave, decided I was gonna be 15 minutes early to job so pulled over and casted 3 times, good payoff. Pic of bass on 6 lb, maybe not big for TX but good for Washington.
Rant, if I have to hear a grown man try to tell me the story of VW size catfish below “any dam in the country, you name it, depends on where you are or where they’re from in the U.S.” where the divers won’t go down because the catfish can swallow a man. When the biggest ever recorded is 143 lbs a blue cat. With a scientific max of 140 lbs. I may choke him. Who knows the 143 lb one coulda had 3 lbs of food and crap in him.

Shutupandfish: I believe you are referring to my post of a 'spoof' that I entitled The Queen to Red River. The actual record of any catfish is from a river in Viet Nam and I think it was 700 or 800 lbs. All my story was pure fiction, just having fun in pulling fishermen's legs. Just Sayin...RJS

Yup, somewhere over there, Mekong catfish heaviest species of catfish. I’ve had to hear this story about every two years about almost every dam in America most of my life. I’ve lived East and West coasts and the Gulf and a whole bunch of places in between them varies little, divers working on the dam or sheriff divers refusing to look for bodies etc. So yesterday was a fellow from Arkansas, sure seems to be more than average fish stories outta there, two of us were talking cat fishing and the Arkansas fellow proceeds with “well back home at a dam..etc” I told him wasn’t buying it. informed him of America’s top 3 species and their size records and 143 lbs…so he jumped back in with well they have 800 lb gar told him biggest recorded under 350 lb not looking it up.
After this he jumped in with well in Mississippi there was a flood and when the waters receded a farmer called the sheriffs cause he thought there was a whale in his yard, turns out to be a 1000 lb catfish Yada-Yada…asked him which part of 143 lb biggest ever America confused him he responded with “I didn’t say it was freshwater” left him with if he ever wanted to talk about the size of gafftop or hard heads, let me know….

While there may be larger cats, they are (if they exist) are almost impossible to reach, catch and land. That was the point I made in Cleopatra II, Queen of Red River! But even a 9 ft long fish weighing 650 lbs is a mighty big fish. Just Sayin....RJS
