Seems to me we used them to fish in salt water years ago, easier to come by and cheaper than blood worms. Come to think of it blood worms would bite also!

Speaking of catching bait. I've used small chunks cut off of old torn Glup minnows to catch pin fish but no earth worms.

Worms work in estuaries. I've caught Perch, Cabazon, and Greenling

I have used them numerous times, but with little success. I now use 2 inch gulp alive sand worms. They are still effective for bait fish when repeatedly trimmed until they are down to 1/2 inch long. Just reduce hook size when they get small. I have caught all kinds of sea/surf perch, rock fish, greenling. lings. a king salmon and numerous halibut up to 40 pounds on them, They are my #1 go to on sole and sand dabs. They also do not dry up and stink like earth worms if kept sealed in their container. Yes, I have tried earth worms and nightcrawlers over the years in salt water, but never again. If it is about money, go dig a few worms in the beach sand or mud, use clams, use muscles or use the neck tubes of anomies off the dock pilings. All work better than worms. Where are you fishing and what are you fishing for? Maybe I can be more specific.

I’ve used them for weakfish when sandworms were too expensive/ hard to get. They turn white pretty quick but they worked.
