What am I doing wrong?

So I love Baitcasting and I'm not really a fan of spinner rods. I'm also kinda new to fishing and I find real bait boring! I have 2 Baitcasters, 1 heavy with 30lb braid and 1 medium with 15lb braid.

It seems no matter what I try soft plastic, hard plastic, jigs, with and without leader lines I still have trouble even getting a bite

Right now I'm fishing on Hopkins river and then to Warrnambool to fish off the pier, any tips or tricks I'm missing?

Relax, fishing is an enjoyment, finesse sport. Slow the retrieve down, do not rush. Be one with your rod and line. Good luck.

The rod only hold the line and the fish don't care what kind you use.

Finding the fish is priority #1
Any local tackle shop will tell you what is biting, where to go and what equipment to use.

You're on a journey. Find out all you can about what that fish you want to fish for. Then compare it to how far you are willing to travel to get to those spots. Compare, fish and destinations. Do your home work, you'll out fish 70% of the other fishermen.

My rule of thumb is what I learned in the military. KISS....keep it simple stupid. Try nightcrawlers and worms. All fish love worms and most have a keen sense of smell and sight. I have found that green worms are amazing. You can buy them at any Walmart or buy a bottle of Worm Glow and follow the simple directions. Good luck and Happy fishing.

Yes grasshopper, you must listen to the wise men. If you can’t relax and enjoy the journey of fishing, not catching, you won’t enjoy it. Ask, read, experiment, listen. You don’t like bait, but bait is a good way to find if there are any fish. Toss a line with a bobber out of the way and use your bc and lures in a different direction. If unmanned bait out performs your bc you have to have a talk with yourself. Switch directions and try again.

Now you truly understand why they call it "fishing" and not "catching". Put your time in, and you will succeed.
