Spent 3 hours digging out a beaver dam on my pond. I lowered it about 3 1/2 feet, equal to around 1,700,000 gallon on n my 1 1/2 acre pond. The pond was put in by the DOT for water management. The outlet is a 5 foot culvert that runs for 3/8 of a mile under the 4 lane highway, entrance and exit ramp. I cleared out the dam to within 1 foot of the bottom of the inlet which I did by hand, with the help of a stick to stir the mud. One heck of a job, even though the dam was only 10 feet wide. On the plus side my dock now sets on the water as it should and I eliminated about 3/4 of the duckweed from the pond. Now I can go in next weekend and spray the rest to keep it manageable. I went back out this evening to try to eliminate the dam predator, but he never showed up. No pictures of the draining, didn't trust having my phone on me.
It looks a little more manageable now. Good luck with that beaver!

Good job Farmer. Did he build it while you were on vacation, or before? You're a man of the world, so I won't give you any advice about dealing with a bad Beaver.

That must have been quite the project, those rascals build some substantial interwoven structures. Used to trap beavers 🦫 in my youth and only ever had one bad one.
A good old case of lead poisoning should take care of that mean and nasty beaver.

A little dynamite would have loosen it up

Problem is the dam is across the culvert and the DOT might not like what dynamite would do to that.

Yeah, I have a Ruger .204 that is very effective, if I can ever catch him in the act.
Nice welcome home there but good work and hopefully no more problems!
Maybe set up some artificial Xmas trees or real brush with pallets etc to fool it into thinking he needs to go chew their stalks and then will be on land.
Beavers supposedly do good things according to what nature needs and water conservation but they usually screw stuff up according to people. They cut nice trees down. The plug up culverts all that. I just watched a documentary on them few days ago.

Yeah, he worked on a couple of oak trees last fall.
My uncle had them in Oregon on his pond. I was thinking you could fool him or her with artificial Xmas trees. If you figure out where his main den or house is. Probably the culvert. There is probably more than one also.
