I’m looking for hooks or jigheads that are small enough to target small croakers and pinfish but strong enough for a 40”+ red drum. I tend to use crappie jigs with a bit of fish bites on it and you’d think such a tiny little bait wouldn’t be what a big bull was looking for but they absolutely love it. Those hooks tend to bend too easy for my liking though, so does anyone have any suggestions for something a bit stronger?

The new heavy duty spro jigs have nice strong hooks. Edit: they are called 'Power Bucktails' now.
Andrus, S&S, etc all make bucktails and jigs with real hooks, not those paperclips that come from a lot of manufacturers.

Those are all much larger than what I described, I’m looking for something to catch baitfish on.

That DOA 1/4oz jig head will get the job done, and they're relatively inexpensive. Thread a piece of shrimp on there, or a Berkeley gulp and you're in business.

Those are like what I regularly use to target redfish and a bit too big for the baitfish to reliably get the hook in their mouth. I still foul-hook the occasional croaker but I’d like a hook small enough to actually target them.

I like a #2 circle hook on the bottom, single drop or double drop with frozen shrimp will pull in croaker, whiting, and spots in all day long. And that #2 is big enough to handle that slot or occasional large ray. On my bottom rigs that's what I have the most success with, and I jig with the 1/4 - 1/2.

Northland tackle. Made to catch fish, not fishermen's attention.
