July 2nd we watched fireworks from Mitchell’s Pointe Marina to support Semper Fi. As we sat there, the air dried out and cooled down to 70 degrees. For those not familiar with Virginia, this is a pleasant break from the normal heat and humidity.
Last night set the stage for this morning. Landed 5 large mouth with the top one weighing out at 2.5 lbs (PB). Lost another 5 while trying to land them on the boat. Had many other hits.
Began fishing at 5am and was off the water by 7:15. Great way to start the day.
Now off to watch my son compete in the Beast Lake Race

Great job Bob, and congrats on the PB. It sounds, and looks like a great place to be. Thanks for the pictures, and sharing.
Nice bass. Looks like fun... for you...maybe not so fun for the bass.
We have a place at the Pointe and come down a couple of weekend s month
Bob, are you retired military or have access to Fort Eustis. If so there is a lake on the base that has a new PB for you in it. It was already double digit when it broke my line in 1968. LOL
I served in the military with 6th ACCB out of Ft. Hood, but did not make it a career. For 2 years our unit worked along side National Border Patrol to protect the citizens and apprehend illegals coming over the border. We covered a range from Big Bend to Del Rio. This assignment was at the directive of president Ronald Reagan.
I will reach out to some of my buddies who I know can get me on to the base. I was at Ft Eustis in the day to become a certified load planner for Ft. Hood and III Corps.

Just an FYI The part of the river on the base was nearly untouched by fishermen back in the day. I expect it gets even less pressure now with the bases closed down to the general public. I have taken giant cats and very large strippers out of the river fishing from the bank. Let me know how it goes if you get the opportunity to fish there.
