I’ve got a pretty good antique reel collection Probly 75 on them.
Nothing really valuable
Least expensive $4 and highest probably $110
Lots of pre WW2 and some turn of century
Also have a few old rods from 40s and 50d
Been thinking about taking a coiple rigs
Out with some of the oldest “ plugs”
I have. . Fish these a full day
Just want to tribute the guys that fished before a lot of us were born
Anyone ever do this. ?
Maybe old rod reel and lure may just lure an OLD huge fish to bite.
I think it would be worth a try
With today’s 15 bearing reels , aerospace inspired rods ,
Super lines , and lures that will knock your socks off.
Go back to basics.
Knowing me , I’ll last about 47 minutes and break out a loomis
Looking forward to learning the results.

My uncle John would frequently use his grandfather’s old lures and I told him that they were valuable. His response, “fish haven’t seen these in years, he’ll yes they’re valuable”.
Ben, go to "fishingtalks.com". There are some people on there that only fish with vintage gear.
I collect vintage fishing gear. Love the old stuff. But when I go fishing give me the new gear.

Every Fathers day I take out the old lures of my dad's and only fish with them
I think that you will enjoy the experience and it is a terrific idea. I use a fair number of modern rigs in my fishing exploits, but I also use several that are "vintage" on a regular basis, and I really like them. Same goes for lures...I use a good number of "collectible" ones and they still catch fish and are fun to ply the waters with.
I think that sometimes the fishing experience is about more than putting fillets on the table...which is great...but the second part of the sport is to enjoy the scenery and soak up the overall activity with how you have chosen to pursue it on any given day.
I always thought it would be fun and interesting to have a fishing tournament where ONLY vintage gear, say pre-1975, or pre-1960, could be used......break out the Mepps and Heddons and toss 'em with old Mitchells and Johnsons, spooled with black Dacron(nylon) on a "Ted Williams Special" rod from Sears or a white fibreglass "True Value" from the hardware store. Cane poles for the shore guys.
The fish would love it and make fun of our straw hats, plaid flannel shirts and overalls !
Last year I took out one of my old Garcia glass rods that I bought in Germany when I was in the service
In1973 !!
What a difference!! Much more heavier,it really surprised me! I did manage to catch a bass!
It is amazing the new technology today.
Have fun using your older Gear

Superb idea! It just might catch on! Sometimes when I play golf I use old equipment (real "woods" and vintage era golf balls too). When I do this I tend to pick a course that was built many moons ago as opposed to the "resort" styled super long distance layouts!
The other day I was doing a "bounce/drop" test on some old golf balls on a cement floor, and the old balls came up about half the height of a new one! That means when you really connect on the clubs sweet spot, you can count on your ball looking like a rocket launched marshmallow! Still fun, but it might take an extra shot to reach the green!
