Was reading how the Dolores R. In Co has dropped down to a small trickle since the drought hit it....and the Fish and wildlife people there feel there may be near 100% mortality of the trout in that River.....what a damn shame.....anyone close out there that knows more?

All I can say is it is ashamed, Shame of on our governments part, Dems or Republicans. I said years and years ago, If they can pump oil all over the world why can't they pump the southern flood waters out west where it is needed the most. Instead of letting it draining into the gulf creating a dead zone in the Gulf of Mexico and brackish waters where we have never had them before. As soon as the big boys figure out how to profit from it something will get done.

Yup as always. Money πŸ’° πŸ’΄ πŸ’΅ money money. Oxygen/acid /Co2 is real deal in water too. Coral Reefs are going away. Some ignore it. Some don’t. Carbon Monoxide also gets dissolved into waters another reason electric motors or no motors at all in some places on boats.

I am registering my Opinion with this. The part of the river affected is below McPhee Dam. It flows thru a pretty deep canyon there. Last spring (2020) after the run off the lake was so full it was difficult to get to the shore to fish. At capacity it is300,000+ acre feet of water. Then last summer we had a combination of high heat, no rain, and forest fires. The primary purpose of the water in the lake is agricultural. So even though the drought was in full swing and they knew it was going to continue into this year, our water managers left the irrigation system open until mid October which drained the lake down to minimum capacity last fall. Anyway no water in the lake, no water to release downstream and the fish are dying off. Sad yes but also angers me at the mis management of the resource by people who should know better.

Thanks Graywolff....i just suspected there was an explanation to the loss of such a fine habitat and a?shame those endowed with saving our resources are so irresponsible in doing so.....thats a real loss to lose that River and all those fish due to inept management.....

Just came from there. I's just a trickle gong into McPhee too. No rain, no snow melt; a really sad picture. I agree there should have been some curtailments of ag water delivery In other words, save some for next year. You never know what the future holds.

It’s unbelievable what people and our government does to this country. Like you said, so very sad.

I live on the western slope of Colorado. The Colorado and Gunnison rivers are very low for this time of the year yet Denver ( eastern slope ) keeps taking water from the Colorado river even though they have an overabundance of water this year. What gives??? Those in charge seem to have been slapped on the wrong end the day of their birth !!!!!!!
