When was that time you helped out a random angler when you were out fishing?

Today some high school kids nervously came up to me and asked if I had a couple spare hooks, I asked what kind and they nervously said "Uh...for bluegill and stuff". I happily gave them 6 circle hooks I had in my tackle box and told them about my "secret spot" where I usually go for slamming bluegill and long ear when the bass aren't biting.

It's not like I donated a rod and reel to them, but I know what it's like to be fishing and run out of a necessity, so it made me feel good helping them keep fishing for a few hours.

Father and son were out fishing at a local park, where suprisingky not many people fish. The 8 year old or so came up to me while I was picking out a birds nest and he told me his dad caught really big fish there last week and he wanted to try to catch it. I told him I’ve caught some on jigs there, it was the middle of summer, and gave him a good pattern to match the water.

Came across a boat on the lake that wouldn’t start. Luckily we had jumper cables on our boat. Had it working in no time.

Was fishing bluegill and shad off a fishing pier on a small local park lake. Wasn’t catching anything. A small group of teens came out with what looked like an old neglected pole they dug out of a garage. They had no idea what they were doing and were asking me all kinds of questions about what types of fish were there, how big they get, etc. I’m not sure what bait they put on but it might have been a scrap piece of bacon or hot dog. They plunked it down right next to the dock right off the bank.

Next thing I know the girl with the pole is shrieking as she hauls out the biggest bluegill I’ve ever seen. It must have been a state record. I didn’t even recognize what it was at first because when they get that big they change shape and color. It looked like a big dark dinner plate. They didn’t know what to do and there was no way they were going to touch it so I helped them get it off the hook and release it. I was so shocked I didn’t think to take a picture or record details. Never seen a gill that big before or since.

A friend of mine was getting out of the military and we fished together whenever we had spare time. One day we were fishing and he snapped his out of nowhere. I lent him my dobyns fury 735c with a curado 71 hg. Ended up giving it him as a goodbye present. Now I'm getting out and I'm planning to surprise him with a fishing trip in cali!

I’ve given whole bags of plastics to kids, jigs to folks on docks, we were catching them in front of their dock, and some kids got some random stuff. Not to mention the swag I give away on my YouTube channel. I pay for it, you get it for free, it’s just a way to give back to the community!

Try to school people on overnight offshore trips so they catch a fish or two and then give up a few fish to folks with little to no fish on their stringer. Too many fish to clean and share with folks that did not do so well! At least they go home with a decent fish fry and what a smile, its worth it!
