Never cranked the boat

There is nothing like catching 5 bass without even cranking the engine. Hit the water this morning at daylight. Put my boat in and started to crank the engine when I looked and saw several areas of water grass. Got to thinking about the number of tournaments on the weekend and how many fish were released at the boat launch and the grass beds that ran about 300 yds down the bank. Pull out a buzz bait and whooper plopper and started casting. I went about 100 yds. without even a hit when I realize I needed to be throwing a spinnerbait. Pick up my spinnerbait rod and after 3 casts had a 3 lb. largemouth on. Ended up catching 5 largemouths all about 3 lbs. or better and lost a hog. Could never get it out of the weeds when it pulled loose. She moved enough water that it sent out a wake. My heart sank but kept fishing and catching fish so I felt better. I had checked the lunar feeding times and I think I got in on the last hour of the feed because I didn't even get a hit when this pattern shut down. I don't plan my trips based on the lunar tables but if possible I will adjust my day to try and include them. I was throwing a 3/8 oz. silver and gold tandem willow leaf with a chartreuse and white skirt. Hope you enjoyed yours.

You were alert to remember the tournament releasing those fish. I was in an amateur tournament and a couple of guys ran away with it using that tactic. I haven't bass fished in many years now, but that spinner bait with the chartreuse and white was always one of my best weapons. I liked to use an Uncle Josh black 2.5 inch eel on the hook. It really made the bait a lot more effective.

Thanks for the alert. It was a fun morning would have been better to have had a fishing partner to really load the boat. Buddy was supposed to go but had a sinus infection with a massive headache. That is also one of my favorite spinnerbaits. Keep casting.
