Well, it was one of those days that should've been productive on the Laguna Madre/S. Padre Island. Pressure rising, moving tide, tides for fishing showed a 3-fish on outgoing tide but the fish wouldn't have it.

Brownsville Tony lent me a banana rig for starters, it wasn't rigged as "Sinker Rig" suggested but it was one of those days that nothing decent would hit a hook. Was an overcast day, so we didn't even catch a sunburn!

Tried the banana rig, shrimp, popping cork, various artificial, fish bites and got: Catfish, very small brown trout, whiting and even a skate....that's how it went.

Wasn't a speckle trout, whiting or drum..... couldn't figure it out and dubbed it a brown trout. Any idea what else it could have been? Sorry no pics worthy of posting.

Possibly a channel mullet. Have caught them before and are darker in color. Very good eating too.

Thanks for the clarification. Yes it appeared to be more like a sand trout.
Fish young so I didn't see any teeth.

Sand Trout. Like a speck but with no specks. I think the rest of the world calls them "weakfish".
