I fish off the shore of a slightly weeded lake near my house, I’m not entirely sure what to cast out looking for bass though. My old man will always recommend Texas rigged rubber worms but I don’t get much luck. Looking for advice

Try Carolina rigs or wacky rigged Senko type worms. Drop shotting is effective, too.
Also, add to your tackle box some spinner baits, those with a jig head and tail of either feathers, or other materials.
You might also want to have a rubber frog. Just Sayin....RJS
Top water baits early morning (Buzz Bait, Pop R) spinner bait early through all day, shallow running crank bait, lipless crank bait (rattling bait). along with Texas rig worm, weightless worm and Carolina rig and frogs.
