Change locations or change lures/bait?

Fishing from the bank if you don't catch anything for a while do you usually change the location your fishing or change the lure or bait? How long to typically fish a spot with out catching anything before you give up? I usually go hoping to catch a nice size fish don't get any and switch to the ultra light to go after crappie and blue gill.

Slaterub: Well a lot depends upon your location. If you have many options for different locations, then I would probably move. However, if the location options are few or limited, I would change lures and exercise more patience. Just Sayin...RJS

I don't move much when I am bank fishing, if not getting bites I try everything that I have until something works. And some days nothing works.

Your question in one that has been posed here a number of times.

I'm using baits that can effectively cover the portion of the water column I expect the fish to be in. (top. middle, bottom).

I may change a bait / technique / presentation to modify speed with these areas.

After that without any feedback I relocating and this may mean a new lake location.

I always change baits first; sometimes a different lure profile will get a bite as it matches whatever the forage is in

the area. I figure that I wouldn't be on that spot unless I thought there were fish there. 90% of the time, I work

the spot. I usually have all the basics already tied on. It's a lot easier putting down what didn't work and picking up

something else. If I don't get bit on the top, bottom or middle I leave unless there's some over whelming reason to

stay.
