I've never fished a beach/pier. I wanted to get some opinions on a good rod/reel setup or combos available like at a big 5 or Dicks. If yall wouldn't mind maybe also a recommendation for what line is best to use also. Thank you all in advance.

Remember on most piers you will be too high out of the water to use a landing net, so use a line strong enough to haul the fish up out of the water.
I fish the San Diego Piers, I use a heavy pole with 25 lb test on the bottom and I use a medium heavy pole with 15 lb test halfway up. (I always have a bucket and gaffe with me.)
Back in the early 60's I practically lived at the Monterey CA pier. I caught a lot of large piling and surf perch as well as mackerel and surf smelt. My only non fly rod was a 7 (make unknown) foot spinning rod and Mitchel 300 reel spooled with 12 pound test mono. It worked great overall for everything. I even walked a shark to the beach to land it. I did on occasion have a fish break off when it flipped while in the air between the pier deck and the water. We did not catch salmon and strippers in those days. I expect, in order to answer your question with some authority, we would have to know what you are likely to hook, and the size lure or weight you will be using at the pier you are referring to.
