Mono or braided?

Going to buy new line today, and was wondering if anyone can give me a breakdown of the advantage of both? Will be fishing spinners, spoons and worms targetting trout. Which kind provides the best casting distance?

Since trout can be line-shy, I may go with mono as a main line and use a fluorocarbon leader.
Smaller diameter will cast farther.

I have been using 20lb. braid for trout with 8lb. floral carbon leader. I have been catching a lots of trout, and braided line casts far and doesn't kink like mono. You might want to go to 10lb or 12lb leader for spinners if the trout are big just to keep from breaking off on the hook set.

I have barid on 2 of my 10 rod&reels. Carolina rig and Flippin setup. Everything else is mono. I understand the things of braid but have never had a problem with using mono. If your rod&reel are matched and the reel is set up correctly you can cast almost as far as just braided line. Everyone has to like the way they do things or it will not matter what you use because you have no confidence in what you are doing.

For mono, go with Trilene XL. It will save you a lot of headaches associated with mono. You might also look at fire line. It is stiff off the spool, but softens up when it gets wet. It is a good compromise between the two main line types.
