Line to use for trout - western NC

So I am taking a trip to western NC in 2 weeks and I am going to be fishing for trout. Should I use braid and a fluorocarbon leader or just fluorocarbon? I have 4lb Berkley vanish but I don't want to put it on yet because I wanted more input. Also, if I am going to be using braid, what breaking strength should I use? Thanks, I've fished bass all my life but never trout so this is new to me.

You can go up to 20 pound braid (that's about what I generally use) and use your 4lb vanish for leader. Use lighter braid if you're gonna be fishing in a lake and need to make longer casts. Stream fishing, that 20 pound will come in handy.

I don't think much of Vanish, but you are on the right path.

4 lb Vanish is good. P-line Floriclear is another.

I agree with Spirit. 15 or 20lb braid is easy to cast and doesn't stretch. I use generally use 6lb fluoro leader. 4 will work also, I'm just optimistic that I'll catch a big 'un sometime. Good Luck
