Greebtime: I don't know if you eat any of the gar that you harvest but, I noticed that in the Rio Grande Valley, the Mexicans would harvest all types of gar, including Alligator Gar. To clean them, they would take a machete and cut open the back of the gar on either side of its backbone. then they would remove the roll of meat on either side very much like a back strap on a deer. That is all they would take. Just sayin...RJS
ya, I'm doing the same thing but with sheet metal shears down the back. suprisingly good eating. they are cleaned that way cause the guts and eggs are super toxic and will ruin the meat if you try to cut then out and nick the membrane.
