Advice from amateurs and pros!

So, I’ve been doing alright lately catching small mouth bass in the rivers here. Fished probably 5 times and every time I caught 1 or 2. However, I keep getting nibbling and tugging then I see the fish swim away. What can I do to secure the catch? Is it technique or tools? I’m using a dark green glittery worm bait (which they love) and a whiteish small fish like bait (which they do mediocre with). I use them on a fairly smaller hook from a beginners kit I bought for $10 with a couple of those really small cannon looking like weights. Sometimes I cut the worm in half sometimes I use the whole thing.

You have to hold your mouth right lf you are going to catch fish! Really, without being with you, I don't have a clue. Usually, when I miss strikes, I change or sharpen the hooks. Perhaps the hooks are too large. Maybe the fish are just light biters. I have that problem mostly in very cold water and then it is a matter of developing the correct technique of setting the hook.

Try scenting the worm or buy scented worm. Maybe the fish will hold it longer. Then try gently tightening line until you feel the fish then set the hook. I am basing this on what I perceive from your post and may be totally wrong about how I interpreted your post. Alaska Charlie is right on when he said he needs to be with you to give more than a 'guess' answer.
