Fish came off the stringer.
I put a fish on a metal stringer and then set it in the water. 10 minutes later it was gone. How does this happen? Did a bass eat it?

How did you have it attached on the stringer around the jaw bone through the gills was it tore off???

Iโve learned with experience that a 2lb bass can open a wire stringer hook if you run it UP through its bottom lip. Apparently they bite down and open it, but since Iโve started going from their mouth, DOWN thru the bottom, it hasnโt happened since.
Works for me...
So far Iโve been lucky ๐ havenโt had any Bass come off and actually had some 3 and 4 pounders on the line ๐๐did have a couple of large catfish twist themselves off oh well
The only fish I have ever 'lost' off of a stringer is when a turtle ate it.
Wow now thatโs a new one โ๏ธ having a Turtle ๐ข eat your catch thatโs crazy ๐ when I was a young kid fishing ๐ฃ with my Dad I had a stringer of bluegill and small catfish in the water and crayfish were eating them this was in Butte creek outside of Colusa Ca back in the early 70โs
River otters are the culprit many times.
Sure your buddy didnโt release it ๐๐just saying ๐๐๐

Oh man! I feel for you :-(
I was in a trout tournament and I had a nice trout on my metal wire stringer. I usually thread the metal wire through the gills and out the mouth. But, for the tournament, I wanted to keep the fish alive a bit longer, so I string the metal wire through the thin membrane on the lower jaw. BIG mistake!!! The trout stared thrashing around and broke free. He left with a broken jaw, but he was free and I was out some tournament $$$ LOL!!! Live and learn!!!

www.Anglersbest.com I have a couple of these and love them.
Lake Bob Sandlin, Texas. We had 4-5 nice 2-4 lb. catfish on a stringer. About sundown, got the poles baited, went in for dinner, came back, and coons had a nice dinner of catfish.

Not sure how it happened. I once, hooked a stringer with a 6lb trout on it, was quite a surprse. Nice meal though
I made a couple of comments earlier on the subject but I forgot to ask what was the fish ๐ you had on your stringer that disappeared ๐ณ๐ฌ๐๐ ๐ก๐
