Left side, I'm right handed.

I have both, but only recently discovered the benefits of matching my spinning gear in casting with the right hand and retrieving with the left. Go with what you are comfortable.

My introduction to baitcasters was on a right hand retrieve reel. I'm also right handed. However a few years back I read and/or heard that unnecessarily having to switch hands delays the hookset even for a split second on a reaction strike, esp. when flipping. So I trained myself to retrieve left handed and now it feels strange to retrieve right handed.

For some reason I feel more comfortable being right handed with the reel handle in my right hand and let the left hand Handel the rod

I cast with my right, both baitcasters and spinning. I reel with my left on my spinning rods, so I figured I would try it for baitcasters as well. Instead of switching hands after the cast. I like it better. To each his own.

Ya Fred fish for some reason my left hand doesnt seem to have the fluid motion to reel smoothly I've learned to switch hands pretty quick after casting don't do to much pitching after the cast the reel gets engaged and if I have to set with my right I can then I make the switch I have spinning gear that I keep trying the reverse but I find it awkward so why bother I quests it's to each his own depending which setup you learned on early baitcasting was mostly right hand reeling and the exact opposite for spinning
