My first time I caught a few sunnies with live worms but it was fish in a barrel cause live bait and it was clear water FULL of sunnies.
Since then I've I've out both day and night. Targeted bass, catfish and trout so far. Nothing. I know there's fish where in going due to word of mouth and the app FishBrain.
Example, today, it was hot so around 11am I went to a spot under a bridge that's known for decent fishing. I started with a spinner targeting bass, did a 9 to 3 cast and then switched to chatterbait. Still nothing so went to senko worms. Still nothing so at this point I just want a fish so I go with a live worm and a bobber and just let it sit there. Still nothing.
After 2.5hr I went home. Am I doing something wrong?

try crawfish for bass . leaches for the catfish(cats like crwfish as well) both are hard to find but you will love the results
Cats and bass shiners with a bobber gets some results but remember it’s fishing not catching lol. With lures it’s an average of 200 cast per fish average seems like it to me. This time of year I don’t think you can beat a good old cricket. Since first of may I have been about 15 times fishing only skunked on 1 day I am still learning this lake 3rd season fishing it try try try. Here is a few catches I got on crickets
Whitereb: Well, remember the rule that 30% of the fishermen catch 70% of the fish. You have to keep on trying until you graduate to the 30% level. I suggest going more often, going early, or fishing a night. Just Sayin....RJS
You said it was hot. How hot. If it was really hot, move your fishing to late night or early morning.

I believe you said you were fishing. that's what fishing is about, catching is a different sport. (see BF quotes)
Remember:
High skys fish are low
Low sky's fish are high.
You and me too. I need training

Try later in the afternoon and/or at night for cats. Or real early in morning stop with the regular bait and switch to stink baits. Look up catfish baits on YouTube you will find a few to try out. I have a few I use that kill cats at night but also kill your sense of smell too. Bass are starting to come out of spawn now along with Bluegill so it is again fishing not catching. So later in day and early in morning around docks and outlets from creeks and fast running streams for bait fish.
Try cat fish about an hour after dark until an hour before light they hunt in shallow water usually near shore. If you don't catch catfish during those hours they aren't there.
