New to Idaho fishing

I’m a retired and new to the Idaho Falls area. Always wanted to be able to catch Smallmouth Bass on a regular basis; they’re always fun when I’m to catch them but I was usually going after largemouth. Are there Smallies above American falls res? I’ve asked but most of the people I know are trout guys. Any help would be great.

Welcome DoitPoppa. There is excellent small mouth fishing above and below the dam. I have been targeting trout there, and want to learn to catch the smallies also. We should get together.

The res is full of smallies as is the snake above and below. I haven’t fished it that much, going to big hole tomorrow on my yak to try. The lake has rocks all around it so that should be good smallie production. Trout fishing should be great as usual.

Sterling access at American Falls. The only issue I had was some guy going around in circles with a towable. Got the whole lake but nooo. Caught smallies on mini chatterbait and huge smallie on buzzbait. Hook up bait in black and gold has been working for everything, including the giant carp, see lure in smallies mouth that’s a hook up bait. Tight lines 😎
