I have a Mitchell 300PRO and so far it has been good paired up with a Phenix Feather as my finesse setup.
I have not disassembled this reel at all. But, I have recently been having an issue where the retrieve feels “sandy”…? When the handle is at the top of a turn the reel sorta resists. Cranking it in, it feels like a cam lobe. Should I just take apart the reel and clean it to see if that would do the trick or should I look into getting a new reel?

If it were me, i would carefully disassemble the reel. I suggest spreading a large sheet of paper, or a towel, and as I took the reel apart, i would number and keep all the parts in proper sequental order. That way you can put them back in the same order.
I would carefully clean and then lightly oil each part and put them back in reverse order. Hopefully this would solve your provblem. Justr Sayin....RJS
It's not going to get better by its own.
Disassemble taking pictures and keep parts in order. Clean and reassemble using reel oil.
You can't make it much worse.
You've seen an 'exploded view' of things before. As you take apart your reel, lay the parts on a sheet of paper in an exploded view - in a place where the kids, the dogs, or the Wife won't disturb them!
One of the best ideas of those mention is taking pictures of order of removal. Sure saves a lot of problems.
All excellent instruction above. That specific reel is not complicated. One more very important thing to consider. Use a quality oil that is primarily developed for reels... and this: less is more. Literally, just 1 drop - no more on moving parts (bearings, etc). Anything more than that just collects dirt

Kids and dogs I can get a grip on, but WIFE??? Okay, is there such a place and how do I get one of my own?
Thanks for the info. I have several older 300's.
