Angry Fisherman?

Today, I had the pleasure of meeting two fisherman. I was actually packing up to go, but instead I noticed a jetty that had some open spots I wanted to give a last go. I grab an extra lure and one rod to go fish the jetty bout 40 yards in to the lake. I get a few cast in on the first open spot I see and a guy I walked past that was on the bank at the start of the jetty comes zooming past me leaving his catfish pole behind him.

I didn’t think much of it. afterwords I caught huge crappie he yelled out he could hold it for me, so I took him up on the offer and we get to talking. This guy tells me he is an a**hole doesn’t like people crowding the area(they don’t, if they do that’s life), he occasionally acts obscene to drive people off. He also stated that fishing with lures and for bass was a waste of time, which is what I mainly do lol. All I could think of is why are you telling me this, but then it clicked in my head this guy was just trying to drive me off by fishing in front of me that’s why he ran out in front of me leaving his stuff behind. and to top it off when I was leaving he was practically asleep even after complaining about not being able to hook into anything. Oh and the other dude I asked “how’s it going?” then freaked out about not being able to catch anything for weeks in the lake, when I’ve seen fish being pulled out of there left and right.

I get that the fishing isn’t always leisurely but god damn try not to rub your stank off on anyone else.

Any angry fisherman stories you’d like to share?

Its probably all their saltiness that is driving the fish away. I mean, very few fish can tolerate high salinity concentration and I’m sure they weren’t fishing for those.

Fyi, I suck at making puns.

I catch one fish and see plops of lures hitting the water in front of me at my local lake.

He actually did that too, which truthfully I don’t mind if it’s a packed lake otherwise I figured that was an unwritten rule, if you don’t personally know the other person give them space. But he couldn’t match what I was throwing cause he doesn’t fish with lures, only live bait.

About 1000 meters away from my house is a bridge on the river I fish religiously. 2 years ago my neighbor sold his house and the property happens to butt right up with the bridge on one side. The guy that bought it I think is a loner but anyways, the bridge happens to be a money hole for walleye through most of the spring and fall.

It’s kind of a rickety old bridge and about 75 meters across with 5 sets of pylons that are wide enough for a small pontoon to fit through. When he seen me one day bring in 3 decent sized walleye and a few smallmouths from the top of the bridge he came unglued and called the DNR ( game warden) and said I was illegally taking fish. Thankfully I have a right to my accuser in Michigan and after he checked my fish and license and what not he gave me his card and went on his way. The next weekend I was out there again and this jackass sees me, gets in his pontoon (looked brand new) and hauls ass under the bridge a few times under the different pylons and basically spooked everything away. I’m not one to call the law easily and it was a little amusing to see him freak out so I let it go.

A few weeks went by and I hadn’t had a chance to go out but anyhow it rained several days in a row and the water was higher but also the current was moving faster than normal. Usually the fishing isn’t good right in there until the water settles down but I decided to go anyway and give it a shot. I wasn’t out there 20 minutes and sure enough boom, I hear his pontoon start. He takes off and hauls ass for the bridge again. This time right before he gets under the bridge he slams it into reverse (way to late btw) and takes out his helm control, canopy and smashed his side rails. Also the current was so strong it had his boat pinned up against the bridge. I can’t even begin to describe how hard it was not to laugh in his face but I offered to help and he didn’t even acknowledge I was there basically. So I pulled out the card the officer gave me and called. Unfortunately he was off duty that day and didn’t come out but the county sheriff was more than happy to come and give him a hand.

I’ve never seen or met anybody so bent against someone else fishing a bridge. Or anywhere for that matter. I’m not sure if he got fined or anything like that but it took a few hours to get his pontoon away from it He still has it and it’s fixed up as far as I can see. I’ve never had any problems since then with him. I’m not even sure if he knows we are neighbors lol

In Florida they do it all the time when we fish docks. They think they own the water around it but they don't. We have a law in Flrida against harassment of fishermen and hunters. I usually don't call unless they really get out,of hand. A couple,of weeks ago one of the guides had a woman come out and soaked him and his clients with a water hose. He called LE. They came and charged the lady. It hit was on the local news and social media. Someone had the idea that fishermen should get together one Saturday afternoon and fish her dock. Well 50+ boats showed up along with a news crew. This sent message a strong message to her and other dock owners. I have not, heard of anyone have a problem since then.

Speaking of dock fishing I was kayaking obviously headed for my early morning go to dock to see what's biting. I wasn't 50 yards away from it and three guys come barreling in and stop with all three throwing at the dock. I asked if they were going to be there for awhile or are they drift fishing. Their reply is they are going to be there and they were sorry. No big deal they couldn't read my mind. I went to another spot and 30 minutes later they left without even a hit. I paddled over, hit my spot, and an 18" trout was in my cooler.

I like to fish from the bank about 50 yards from a boat launch. This is a dandy little lawn sized grassy plot with a couple of trees for shade. Bank is about 10 feet above the water. Dock is plenty big for multiple boats. No boats this day though. Family launches big pontoon while other 2 car loads of family drive up and park. Captain Nemo backs out in the cove and pulls up to the bank right in front of my chair, dragging my line in with his bow. This herd of dumb bells come walking down around us, kicking my tackle box and bait out of their way. I asked the women to get them younguns out of the way while I reeled In because I was fixing to cast my lures at their fellers and hook em full of treble hooks. I’d stop by the hospital and get my lures back. They all kept quiet till they were out of casting range then cussed me till a fly wouldn’t light on me.
