Who remembers school recess with kick the milk cartoon game, Saturday sandlot ballgames picking teams with hand over hand on the bat, Hide and go seek, and yes hop scotch and jump rope with the girls?
As I look out the window each day I wonder where are the kids? Only my memory of these times is what i see again today.
Got to go now, going to see what lumber i can find to build my tree fort.

Oh yes, I remember. Mom wrapped our sandwich in waxed paper and we saved it to take out to the steel slide, sit on the waxed paper to go down the slide. After four or five kids did it the slide was really fast.

Funny that you mention that Jer, We were out for a ride a few weeks ago and as i passed this place i recalled being here 60 years ago. Of course i had to stop, and yes i took a few rides down memory lane.

did a little of that at recess rest of the time dad had me working
Didn't have any parks to play in but had a swing set in the backyard my Dad built from well pipe. Later we had a basketball hoop in the parking lot behind the police station. Bike and a shotgun kept me busy. And don't forget hit the bat when we didn't have enough kids for two teams.
Hi fellows. I remember it well except we kicked cans. I like the swings with the long chains. The ones you'd get up as high as you could then jump off. Plum I'm blessed in the kids deal. We have a big elementary school 100yds away. The day we moved in we took a break on the deck n listened to kids at play. A wonderful sound after city life. This school has all day events now n then. Physical play time they bring in a DJ bounce houses all kind if activities. The kids have a blast n so do I. Took pup out one day turned around she's gone. Then i heard the kids. Chylo was on the playground with them LOL. I've said it before. The wonderment n exuberance of a child warms the heart. Y'all have a great wkn πππΊπΈπΊπΈ

I'll bet kids were flying off the end of that slide. Holy Moly.

Great memories. Always had my glove on my handlebars and playing ball all day long was our good times. Had to get all the chores done first.

Oh, for sure. It was very slick and fast.
Oh yeah...definitely brings back fond memories! Your list was the same as what we did in our neighborhood...and it's funny because just a few days ago I was talking to my wife about all the fun stuff we did as kids, and how nowadays I'm not sure that children have the same amount of plain old fun outdoors. Flashlight tag and capture the flag were also favorites in our hometown.
Although where we live right now is a fairly small town, there are lot's of parks and when we take our grandchildren to "play", the playgrounds are usually busy with other kids too...but they tend to stay "solo" and are not as willing to interact like we did growing up. Parents are hovering in tight keeping a watchful eye on their children for fear of being kidnapped...and that is a shame because these days you absolutely do need to be on your best game to guard your kids. Times have changed...
When I was young, we would wake up, eat breakfast, and then tell Mom and Dad..."see you later"...and be gone for several hours on end doing who knows what (sometimes we skipped lunch and were gone all day until supper time). I do believe that we are living in more dangerous times these days than what we had going on 70 years ago...so I appreciate parents being much more cautious.
One of the best side effects of being a grand parent is that you have a valid excuse to be a kid once again yourself! Just wish my knees did not hurt when kneeling down! I use a gardening pad and the kids think it is a fun accessory, especially when we do chalk art on the concrete driveway!

Remember all those games and things we did. Stayed out all day and got home when the street lights came on except when you were camping out with your friends. Then it was time for Snipe Hunting.
West Philadelphia-"baseball in the street" with bottlecaps, double dutch, stickball and handball against the steps. Or down to Cobbs Creek Park to just "run around." Youngest of 4 we always had some activity outside.

The good ole days. I remember looking forward to school starting in the fall. It was like vacation was about to begin and the long hot summer months of working on the ranch were about over. I sure wish it was THAT way again.
