It was a big old girl Al, laid eggs in back of my shed in a compost pile. Quite unusual because the nearest water is about 1/4 mile away. We’ve been here 30 years and this is the first time we’ve had that happen.

Guess you better build a pond before they hatch. Lol.

Unlike a swan, which is Pretty but mean (pretentious). Snapping turtles and honest creatures,( nasty smelling with a nasty attitude).
I prefer snapping turtles.
And every June 1 I look for them, out looking for a place to lay their eggs.

That is indeed a big one! Turtles are cool..especially snappers. The babies are as cute as can be once hatched, but then again, what baby animal isn't!

Guess they’ll have to make it down to the water by themselves DT. Not much parental nurturing with the turtles.

Maybe you should contact the state fish&wildlife office and see if they could, would take and care for the eggs. Are the Turtles protected there?

Snapping Turtles are not generally protected but should not be destroyed for no reason.
